Lavern J. Blend, age 82, passed away October 17,
2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Canton
April 5, 1922, to the late Louis and Mildred Blend.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and
friend to many. He graduated from Timken High School
where he chose a career in printing. A World War II veteran,
where he was an Army paratrooper and a member of the
101 First Airborn. Married to Mary (Christea) Blend. They
recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.
He leaves behind two daughters and sons-in-law,
Dorrie Jean and John C. Muller of Pierson, FL, Debbie
and Tom Serra of North Canton; and a son and daughter-
in-law, Dan and Tammy Blend of North Canton; five grand-
children, Chuck, Joe, Brian, Hollie and Jason; three step-
grandchildren; a sister, Rita Stark of Canton.
Preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Ronsky and
a daughter-in-law, Joan Gulling Blend.
He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters,
St. Charles Court #851. He played an active role in the family
business at The House of Flowers. The main enjoyment in
Lavern?s life was his devotion to his family whom he loved
so much. One of his greatest joys was to spend time at his
home or on his land on his tractor.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday 1 p.m.
at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Edward
Beneleit. Burial at North Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be
held Wednesday (today) 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Welch-Sekeres-
Lewis Funeral Home.
