Walter Earl Reed Jr.
80; retired bookkeeper
A funeral Mass for Walter Earl Reed Jr., 80, of New Albany, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Road, Louisville, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. He died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Norton Hospital.
He was born on April 16, 1924, in Tell City, Ind. and moved to Louisville at a young age.
He graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1942, and was called into service with the U.S. Army during World War II, having served in the headquarters special troops 11th Airborne Division for 22 months in New Guinea, the Philippines, Okinawa and Japan. He received the purple heart and was honorably discharged on Jan. 12, 1946. Following his discharge, he attended the University of Dayton.
He was the retired owner and operator of Louisville Bookkeeping and Tax Service. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and St. Xavier High School Tiger Booster Club.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, the former Margaret Fante; a daughter, Carol McIntyre and husband, John; two sons, W. Earl Reed III and wife, Bridgett and Eric Reed and wife, Andrea J.; and five grandchildren, Katie, Kevin and Maggie McIntyre and Annie and Wally Reed.
He was preceded in death by his father, W. Earl Reed Sr.; mother, Gertrude Montgomery Reed; and brother, Robert Reed.
Visitation at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison Avenue at Barret, Louisville, will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 15.
