Mabel M. (Svejkovsky) Twedell, 84
1922-2007
Mabel Twedell, 84, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.
Mabel Mary Svejkovsky was born October 27, 1922, to Jim and Agnes Svejkovsky. Mabel graduated from Austin High School in 1941, and was married to George E. Twedell on October 2, 1948, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2002. Mabel lived her entire life in Austin except for residing a brief time in California.
She was a life-long member of Western Fraternal Lodge #38 and was proud to wear her 75-year member pin.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law: Barry Twedell, Austin; Brad (Diane) Twedell, Albert Lea, Minnesota; and Brent Twedell, Lyle, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith, Austin; and a brother-in-law, Ted Getchell, Austin.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and by three brothers: Jim, Edwin, and Harold Svejkovsky.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery. A wake service was held at 7 p.m. on June 11th, at the Mayer Funeral Home.

April 4, 2012 Paul Douglas Reiss, 70, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Paul was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He was a Eucharistic minister and helped the church in many ways, serving at the food pantry and in the Rosary Society. In May, he was to be commissioned in the Ministry of Pastoral Care at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Mr. Reiss served in the U.S.M.C. and was in Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the Naval Gunfire Liaison Team. Paul was honorably discharged 1964 as a corporal. He received a degree in chemical technology from OCC in 1967. Paul was employed at Allied Chemical as a research technician over 12 years. He also volunteered at the American Red Cross. Paul enjoyed his family, taking candid photos and was an avid sports fan who followed Cleveland and Syracuse teams. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Edward H. and Virginia B. (Radziszewski) Reiss, and is survived by daughters Jennifer (Nicholas) Defio of Syracuse and Ann (Thomas) Horth of North Syracuse; grandchildren Nicky, Julie, Ally and Justin; sisters Sharon Meddley of Virginia and Margot (Richard) Cole of Hannibal; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hollis Funeral Home, 1105 West Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13204. Funeral services are 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hollis Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, followed by burial with military honors at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lakeland. Twedell on Oct. 2, 1948 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2002. Mabel lived her entire life in Austin except for residing a brief time in California.
Mabel was a life-long member of Western Fraternal Lodge #38 and was proud to wear her 75-year member pin. Her favorite past time of plastic needlework allowed her to make beautiful craft items for all of her friends.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law: Barry Twedell, Austin; Brad (Diane) Twedell, Albert Lea, Minn.; and Brent Twedell, Lyle, Minn.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith, Austin; brother-in-law, Ted Getchell, Austin.
