Bio: Harvey B. Kurle, 86, Eureka, died Monday, March 26, 2012, at the Eureka Assisted Living Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, from St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Eureka, with Pastor Dianne Rood-Kiesz and Pastor Walter Schott leading the service. Organist will be Willis Kiesz and the congregation will sing "Softly and Tenderly" "In the Garden" "Precious Lord, take my Hand" and "Jesus Loves me." Soloist Ronda Lapp will sing "What a day that will Be." Usher will be Calvin Neuharth. Interment, with military graveside rites by the Fred Weller American Legion Post #186, Eureka.Harvey Brightens Kurle, son of Jacob and Friedericka (Ritter) Kurle, was born east of Eureka on August 01, 1925. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. Harvey worked on the family farm for a few years. He served his country in the United States Army, being inducted May 22, 1945. Harvey was honorably discharged on June 02, 1946, and returned to the farm.He married Alice Doerr at the Hoffnungsfeld Congregational Church northeast of Eureka on February 02, 1947. The newlyweds first settled on Harvey's homestead near Eureka. In 1956, they moved into Eureka where they made their home. Harvey was employed as a semi driver for Wolff Company, Eureka Equity Exchange, and Schaeffer Manufacturing Company. He also was a custodian for the Eureka Public School. Harvey started custom combining in 1964 and made the harvest run from Oklahoma to North Dakota for 30 years.Harvey was an active member of the Unted Church of Christ, the Eureka American Legion, and the city of Eureka where he held various offices. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, looking at old photographs, and reminiscing about his many adventures he experienced while driving semi and combining throughout the midwest.Harvey is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Richard) Curran of Veblen, South Dakotam and Debbie (Charlie) Erickson of Bismarck; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.Harvey was preceded in death by his wife on may 27, 2001, his daughter, Karen Dais, in April 2002, his father in January 1958, his mother in April 1976, and his sisters Esther Beck and Viola Doerr.Casket bearers will be Tim Schmidt of Herreid, Ken Kurle, Mark Gruebele, Les Schock, Gary Oster, and Jeff Neuharth, all of Eureka.Lien Funeral Home, Eureka, South Dakota.
