Lloyd H. Smith, 86 of Zanesville, died 6:00 AM Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Emeritus at North Hills following a sudden illness. He was born Monday, May 4, 1925 in Woodsfield, the son of Clarence Otto Smith, Sr. and Clara (Burkhart) Smith. He married Marguerite (Lake) Smith on Friday, November 26, 1948 and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
Lloyd was a veteran of the United States Navy serving his country during WW II. He retired from Armco Steel following over 30 years of services. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed every game he played. Lloyd was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
Lloyd is survived by one daughter: Victoria (Robert) Wetzel of Zanesville; one son Mark G. Smith of Newark; five grandchildren: Amy (Frank) Moore, Pamela (Lou) Groen, Patricia (Bryce) Schumm, Jennifer (Cory) Corsi and Nicolette (Brandon) Ledford; six great grandchildren; two sisters: JoAnn (Charles) Hohman of Granville and Mary Summers of Zanesville; one brother: Rev. Fr. James T. Smith of Columbus and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife of over 61 years: Marguerite L. Smith who died August 16, 2009; one daughter-in-law: Sheri Smith; five brothers: Harold, Charles, Edward, Ralph and Clarence Otto, Jr. and one sister: Dorothy Mae Allbritain.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, February 20, 2012 at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, where a Christian Vigil will be held at 7:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 21, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Ralko as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Fenwick School Zanesville, Ohio 43701 in Lloyd's name.
