WHITLA William Thomas Whitla, 69, Bonita Springs. Fla., died Friday, Feb. 20 at his residence following an extended illness. Born Feb. 29, 1928, Beaver Falls, Pa., son of the late Jay Theodore and Flora Pearl Carlton Whitla, he was married to Mary Margaret Krannitz Whitla, who survives. A U.S. Army and Navy veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict. He was a former golf course superintendent in Avon Park, Fla. and a member of Florida Moose Lodges and American Legion in Bonita Springs, Fla. Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Glyn (Mary Kay) Acton of Bonita Springs, Fla.; two stepsons, Joseph Terrell of Logan and Edward Chilcote of Columbus; a brother, Theodore "Ted" Whitla of Beaver Falls, Pa.; a sister, Mary W. Peluso of New Castle, Pa.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roberts Funeral Home with the Rev. Father Richard J. Pendolphi officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by Combined Veterans of Hocking County. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
