Well Known Kossuth County Farmer Passes After Illness of Several Weeks
Michael Keller, 64 years of age, passed away at his home between Gerled and Lakota, January 18, 1934. Mr. Keller had been ill for several weeks and for a time it was hoped that he would fully recover but later developments proved that his trouble was such that no human aid could prolong his life. For a number of years, Mr. Keller resided in the Bancroft neighborhood, thus he was well and favorabley known to almost everyone in this community. A large number of local people attended the funeral services at Ledyard last Saturday morning.
Michael Keller was born in Bavaria, Germeny, February 22nd, 1870 and passed away at his home with most of the members of his family at his bedside, January 18, 1934. He had been bedfast several weeks but was a constant sufferer for almost a year. The immediate cause of his death was announced as cancer of the lingual glands.
Mr. Keller came to America with his parents while quite young and for a time made his home in Indiana. February 4, 1898, he married to Agatha Oosthuys at Dunnington, Indiana. The year after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Keller moved to Missouri, where they made their home for four years and came to Kossuth county in 1904, where they have since resided. Mr. Keller was a resident of Kossuth county for over 30 years.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 20th at the Catholic church in Ledyard at 10 a.m., Rev. Peter Sturm, the Ledyard pastor, having charge of the services. Mr. Keller had been a life long member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Modern Woodmen of America.
Pall bearers were: Ed Looft, Albert Weaver, Jerry Sullivan, Joe Kollasch, Richard Zielske and S. P. Powers, all friends of many years standing of the deceased. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, four sons and two daughters: Nicholas, William, Leo and John, Elizabeth and Mrs. Frank Rotterman, three brothers, Matt Keller of Vincennes, Indiana, Jake Keller of Bancroft and Baldisar Keller, who still resides in Germany.
