Birth: Jul. 7, 1919 Death: Apr. 6, 2010 Baton Rouge East Baton Rouge Parish Louisiana, USA Advocate, The (Baton Rouge, LA) - Friday, April 9, 2010 Janet LaCombe Parker, 90, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at St. James Place. She was known for her quick wit, enthusiasm for life and charming ways. She was a consummate storyteller who used skills honed as a participant in the speech program at LSU to give marvelous performances based on everyday life. Her children fondly remember the poems she recited to them at bedtime when they were sick. She started her professional career typing theses and books for LSU professors and progressed to establishing the first court-reporting and public stenography business in Baton Rouge. She was grand dame of court reporting and her name, Janet L. Parker and Associates, is still synonymous with excellence in that field. She was an avid bridge player and an active member of St. James Episcopal Church. She could be seen every Lent serving during the gumbo luncheons. At St. James Place she served on many committees to assure quality of life for the residents. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles Wilson Parker; and a son, Charles Stafford Parker. She is survived by a daughter, two sons, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation at St. James Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Very Rev. J. Mark Holland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
