Martha H. Hillenbrand, 82, Batesville, Ind., died late Thursday, May 17, 1990 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.
Born April 26, 1908 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of John J. Heidacher and Katherine B. Bosse. She lived in the Price Hills section of Cincinnati until August, 1931, when she married Batesville businessman and founder of the Hill-Rom Co., William A. Hillenbrand. They were married Aug. 18, 1931 in Cincinnati.
She was a homemaker and was active in many Batesville community affairs. She was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Louis Ladies Society, Margaret Mary Community Hospital Guild, and was a supporter of the Girl Scouts.
She and her husband had an active interest in the Margaret Mary Community Hospital, especially in the kidney dialysis area and new birthing department. They also had an active interest in the New Horizons Rehabilitation Center in Batesville.
She attended Mt. St. Joseph's College in Cincinnati and was a member of the Mt. St. Joseph's Alumni Association.
She is survived by one son, W. August (Gus) Hillenbrand, Batesville; two daughters, Mrs. Catherine H. Kennedy, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Martha H. Ragland, Cincinnati, and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on Dec. 6, 1986; one son, Richard D. Hillenbrand, in June, 1966, three brothers and three sisters.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville. Father Ric Schneider OFM will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the William A. Hillenbrand residence at 336 Mitchell Ave., Batesville.
Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Margaret Mary Community Hospital birthing area or the New Horizons Rehabilitation Center.
