Thomas Eckroth, 83, of McPherson, passed away at 5:29 p.m., Monday, July 13, while in the company of family members, at Angel Arms.
Tom was born in St. Anthony, North Dakota on April 18, 1932, a son of Katherine (Pfaff) and Peter Eckroth.
Tom attended school in Fallon, North Dakota. He received his bachelor’s degree from University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Tom was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church McPherson and was a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Tom honorably service in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
Through the years, Tom worked in the oil fields in Montana during college. After college, he worked for North Dakota Concrete Products (Cretex) as a bookkeeper and retired as the office manager in 1996.
Thomas was a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member and past Governor of the Moose Lodge both of Bismarck, North Dakota. Thomas enjoyed his children's and grandchildren's activities, never missing a game or event, loved to go fishing and camping and spending time with his family. He was very involved with actives involving children in the community and supported them in many different ways through the years. He was very good with his hands and loved woodworking and made many items he gave away to family, friends, and organizations that supported children.
Thomas Eckroth was united in marriage to Sharon Ann Hoffman on September 18, 1958 at the Cathedral Church in Bismarck, North Dakota. The young couple established their first home together in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Tom is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 56 years, Sharon "Shari" Eckroth, of McPherson; his children, Deb Wagner and her husband Jerry, of McPherson, Tim Eckroth and his wife Valerie, of Huddleston, Virginia, Todd Eckroth and his wife Laurie, of Bismarck, North Dakota, and Tammy Haid and her husband Loren, of Bismarck, North Dakota; his brother, Joseph "Joe" Eckroth and his wife Katie, of Mandan, North Dakota; his seven grandchildren, Robert, Dani, Aeneva, Ashley, Michael, Sarah (Jesse), and Chad (Mandi); his two great-grandchildren, Raegan and Kylie; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Eckroth and sisters, Rose Eckroth, Minnie Schlinger, Ida Leingang, Isabelle Frank, and Barbara Bohl.
Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, with the Reverend Tim Leaf officiating.
The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery with members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 providing military services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Ministry in memory of Tom and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
