Ervin C. "Sam" Johnson, 85, of Middleton, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 1995, at a Boise retirement center of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 1995, at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Mr. Bill Free of the Church of Christ, Caldwell, will officiate. Services will conclude at the chapel and private interment will be at the Middleton Cemetery.
"Sam" was born October 12, 1910, at Mulhall, Oklahoma, a son of Robert and Mayme Johnson. He married Rachel Rardin in Napa, California, on September 28, 1932. They lived in various places in Oklahoma, California, Oregon and in Notus, Idaho, where he was the manager of the Black Canyon Irrigation District for several years. Upon retirement they moved to Middleton, Idaho, where he was residing at the time of death. "Sam' spent many years in ill health and had endured many surgeries and was always brave in his quest to recover. One of his greatest joys was to have his children and grandchildren gather for family get-togethers. He truly loved his animal friends.
He was a member of the Caldwell Church of Christ. He loved the church and the other members of the congregation and rarely missed attending services.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel; one son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Brenda Johnson; three daughters and one son-in-law, Margie McGee, Shirley and Melvin Landers, and Wanda Pierson; fifteen grandchildren, Vicki McIntire, Beth Camero, Kathy Haynes, Mary McGee, Greg Clopton, David Clopton, Karma Dorbrusky, Brian John son, Gina Bosch, Josh Johnson, Kris Johnson, Diane Atkinson, Donna Gabbitas, Dan Pierson, and Julie Pearson; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon Johnson; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Lora and Bill Hunt, Lenora Moore, and Louise Longden, all of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Chester and Glenn Johnson.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Youth Organization at the Church of Christ, Caldwell, Idaho, or flowers may be sent.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dakan Chapel, Caldwell.
