TROY - Bernice Evelyn Carter, 80, died, Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at Oakwood Campus in Tell City, Ind. She was born on July 14, 1926, in Troy, Ind. to the late Albert and Mary Frances (Gramelspacher) Kuntz. Also preceding her in death were husbands, James Waterbury, John Zuelly and Virgil Carter; sisters, Leona Gorman, Ella Mae Mann and Clara "Susie" Harris; and granddaughter Judy Ann Scherzinger.
A 1944 graduate of Troy High School, Bernice worked at General Electric until her retirement. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed watching IU ballgames, playing cards, sewing and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are her five sons, Jerry and wife Sherry Kuntz of Troy, Mike Waterbury of Tell City, Gary and wife Mary Kaye Zuelly of Santa Claus,Ind., David Zuelly of Evansville and John Zuelly of Virginia; three daughters, Juanita and husband Jerry Harpenau of Troy, Kathy and husband Darrel Boling and Tammy and husband Jeff Hahus, all of Tell City; two brothers, Charles Kuntz of Troy and Louis Kuntz of Tell City; two sisters, Alberta Harpe of Tell City and Verna Fugit and husband Bob of Indianapolis; 16 grandchildren, Craig Kuntz, Kathy Jo Zabel, Karmen Peter, Lisa and Kevin Harpenau, Julie Lawalin, Chuck and Jimmy Scherzinger, Jason and Jered Schulthise, Laura Hisle, Tina Luebbenhusen, and Brian, Paul, Mike and Renee Zuelly; three stepgrandchildren, Cindy Spencer, Brenda Mosby and Jeremy Conder; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 15 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy, the Rev. Barnabus Gillespie, O.S.B. officiating, with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Tell City. Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 14 from 2 to 8 p.m., with a parish prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday morning.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
