Full Obituary: Carl S. Wissel, age 80 of Batesville, died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at his residence. Born November 15, 1930 in Franklin County Indiana, he is the son of Flora (Nee: Erbacher) and Joseph Wissel. He married Joan Meyer May 21, 1955 at Little Flower Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and after the service, he returned to his job in maintenance at Margaret Mary Hospital. He later would spend 20 years as parts manager for Bessler Farm Equipment and 17 years in maintenance with the Hill-Rom Company before retiring. He was a member of Holy Family Church in Oldenburg and the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183. If you knew Carl, then you certainly were entertained by his dry humor often. He was a people person and liked having his family around. When the kids were younger, they remember dad getting out his Hawaiian guitar (something similar to a steel guitar) and singing. He and Joan enjoyed spending time with their friends socializing and playing cards. 500 was his favorite and in later years he played solitaire on the computer quite a bit. Although he was usually in bed early, Tuesdays was the exception as he stayed up to watch NCIS and Two and Half Men. Carl would often stop at the V.F.W. hall to shoot the breeze with the guys and maybe even wet his whistle. His family recalled his tomato garden he put out each year and his trusted friend, Muffin. Although she was a dog, he would tease her with choruses Meow, Meow, Meow. Carl is survived by his wife Joan; daughters Mary Jo Nobbe of Batesville, Roseann Cook of Indianapolis, Amy Strub of Batesville; sons Carl Chuck Wissel of Yorkville, Indiana, Dan Wissel of Austin, Texas, Edward Ned Wissel of Indianapolis; sister Florence Kreuzman of Batesville; brother Paul Wissel of Oldenburg; 12 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sisters Rose McHugh, Mary Kurtz, Rita Meyer and brothers Herman and Albert Wissel. Visitation is Tuesday, January 18th, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 19th, at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to the Hansen Center.
