Frances Fuehrer-Ketterling was born Oct. 20, 1944, on a farm three miles north in Leola, S.D., to Albert and Hulda (Klingman) Fuehrer. She attended school in Leola. That is where she met her high school sweetheart, Martin Ketterling. They later married on June 15, 1963. They just celebrated their 52nd Anniversary. They made their first home in Aberdeen, S.D., where Fran worked as a CNA for St. Lukes. Marty worked for plumbing and heating company, he later joined Plumbers Pipefitters local union. After that, Fran was able to stay home and enjoy raising her kids.
In 1976, they decided to move to Bismarck, due to Marty’s work with power plants, she continued to stay at home until 1985. She went back to work as a CNA for the hospital, then for Home Health Care. She really enjoyed working in home health care, where she could interact with the elderly. She became close friends with most of them. She really enjoyed her work until her chronic asthma forced her to quit working.
When her grandkids started coming into her life, they were her pride and joy. She cherished every one of her grandkids and was excited to tell her grandkids that “Jesus loves you”. Her church became very important to her, where she became involved in teaching AWANAS and became close with many of the kids there. She was a good listener which the kids loved. She served on Nurture Outreach committee. She enjoyed Sunday school and Woman’s Bible study. She was very compassionate with many people and she will be missed.
Frances is survived by her husband, Martin, Bismarck; her daughters, Deb (Ken) Pilon, Bismarck, and Denise (Royce) Heick, Wichita, Kan.; her sons, Dan (Lori) Ketterling, Northridge, Calif., Dennis (Jenifer) Ketterling, Valencia, Calif., and Douglas (Amanda) Ketterling, Fargo; her grandchildren, Bryce, Mitchel, Rowan, Paige, Katelyn, Taylor, Ryan, Madison, Jessica, Andrew, Austin, Brayden and Colson; and her sister, Pauline Fischer, Aberdeen, S.D.
