Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen with Military Honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Visitation will be from 1-7pm Thursday, with family present from 5-7pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

ERNEST KETTERLING
The funeral service for Ernest Ketterling, 78, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30am, Friday, July 30, 2010 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Chris Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen with Military Honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Ernest died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital at Aberdeen.
Visitation will be from 1-7pm Thursday, with family present from 5-7pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Ernest Ketterling was born on January 11, 1932 at Hosmer, SD to George and Karolina (Guthmiller) Ketterling. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. In November, 1952, Ernest joined the US Army and was stationed at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. It was in New Jersey that he met the love of his life, Kathleen. On July 3, 1955, Ernest married Kathleen Hundevadt at Long Lake, SD. They made their home in Aberdeen where he worked for various plumbers. In 1973, he started Ketterling Plumbing and Heating. Ernest retired in 2004.
Ernest was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Ernest loved the outdoors and working with horses. He liked to do crossword puzzles in his free time. He enjoyed traveling and especially going to Indiana to see his family. Ernest was a loving father and husband. One of his greatest joys came from spending time with his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Ernest’s life are his wife, Kathleen of Aberdeen, two sons, Calvin (Terri) Ketterling of North Vernon, IN and Arthur (Rhea) Ketterling of Aberdeen, two brothers, George (Barbara) Ketterling of Aberdeen, and Martin (Frances) Ketterling of Bismarck, ND, three sisters, Esther Schock of Aberdeen, SD, Emma Kleinkneckt of Jamestown, ND, and Anna (Eugene) Smith of Manango, ND, and four grandchildren, Eric Ketterling, Callissa Ketterling, Caitlin Ketterling and Luke Ketterling.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, George and Karolina, and two sisters, Margaret Ketterling and Clara Melaas.
