Aberdeen: Funeral services for George G. Ketterling, 84, Aberdeen, are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pastor Jeff Whillock officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen.
George died Wednesday, July 20, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.
Visitation: 1-7 p.m. Monday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
George G. Ketterling was born on Oct. 12, 1926, to George and Karolina (Guthmiller) Ketterling in Hillsview, S.D. George attended school at Hillsview, Long Lake and Leola. He married Irene Schaffer in Long Lake on Oct. 19, 1947. They lived on a farm near Lehr and later moved to a farm near Eureka. They moved to Long Lake in the fall of 1949 and in 1950, they moved to Ashley where he worked at a furniture store.
In 1951, they moved to Quinn, S.D., and George worked as a foreman on a ranch and also was a welder for Minuteman Missle Silos. In 1954, they moved to Aberdeen where he worked for Berens Lumber, Lampert Lumber and Town and Country Supplies until 1964, when he had back surgery. He started his own business called George's Tenth Ave. Saw Services until he retired in December 1986. Irene died Jan. 11, 2002. George married Barbara (Tucay) Kerr on May 16, 2010, in Las Vegas, Nev. They made their home in Aberdeen.

George G. Ketterling was born on October 12, 1926 to George and Karolina (Guthmiller) Ketterling at Hillsview, SD. George attended school at Hillsview, Long Lake, and Leola. He married Irene Schaffer at Long Lake on October 19, 1947. They lived on a farm near Lehr and later moved to a farm near Eureka. George had a self-taught ability to repair any type of small engine. He said that he first learned about mechanics from his dad, who had him completely disassemble and reassemble an entire tractor. He enjoyed listening to polka music, playing cards, fishing, hunting and word find puzzles.
Grateful for having shared George's life are his wife, Barbara Ketterling, Aberdeen, daughters, Darlene Sanders, Sioux Falls, Linda (Laddie) Vetsch, Gerri Ketterling, and Julie (Jim) Kaul, all of Aberdeen; step-children, Julie York, James Kerr, and Jennifer (William) Greene, brother, Martin (Frances) Ketterling, sisters, Esther Schock, Emma Kleinkneckt and Anna (Eugene) Smith, nine grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, his parents, George and Karolina Ketterling, son, Gene Ketterling, brother, Ernest Ketterling, sisters, Clara Melaas and Margaret Ketterling.
