Betty Randall Fyock, 92, of Penn Run, went to be with her Saviour on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.
The daughter of Frederick and Maud Randall, she was born May 31, 1920, in Northants, England.
Betty served in the British Land Army during World War II. She was a war bride who came to the United States in 1944 after meeting then marrying her late husband, Richard G. (Dick) Fyock, who was stationed in England while serving in the United States Army as a medic. They were married Sept. 23, 1944, and celebrated 66 years of marriage together.
Betty was known for her loving, caring manner. She was a kind person with a gentle soul and had a soft spot for animals. Betty was also a dedicated Christian and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the Penns Manor Church of the Nazarene where she was a member. She spent countless hours reading and studying her Bible and was a dedicated "prayer warrior."
Some of her interests were knitting, watching British comedies on TV with her husband and family on Saturday nights and going shopping. She was an avid reader, having passed on her passion to many of her family members. She had a special talent for writing, having written numerous poems, some of which were published.
Betty and Dick also enjoyed traveling. They always looked forward to their vacations in England to visit family.
Betty is survived by her remaining five children: daughters Carol Rainey and husband Dick, and Patricia "Pat" Lydic, all of Penn Run; daughter Linda Roof and husband Earl, of Creekside; son Mark Fyock, and daughter Karen Markel and husband Ed, all of Penn Run; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons Scott B. Fyock and Richard P. Fyock; a daughter-in-law, Debra Fyock; her sister Kit Saddington; twin sister Molly Fisher; and her brothers Arch Randall and Peter Randall.
Betty will be remembered by many as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
The family would like to thank their mother's present caregivers, Debbie Lydic, Kim Frech and Sue Matthews, who lovingly helped the family take care of their mother. Their gentle kindness towards Gram will never be forgotten. She loved you all.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home in Indiana.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lefdahl Chapel in Indiana with the Rev. William Degenkolb officiating.
Interment will follow in the Brethren Cemetery in Penn Run.
