Michael Wetsch
Michael "Mike" A. Wetsch, 83, died June 18, 2009, at his home in Salem, Ore. Memorial services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan.
Mike was born May 18, 1926, in St. Anthony, to Anton and Magdelina (Hatzenbuhler) Wetsch. He attended grade school at St. Anthony. He married Rose V. Bullinger in Huff on June 15, 1948.
In 1985, Mike semi-retired and they moved to Issaquah, Wash., where he worked as a handyman in the campground where they lived.
In January 2004, they moved to Meadow Creek Village Assisted Living in Salem, Ore. Unfortunately, Rose passed away on June 16, 2004, the day after their 56th wedding anniversary. Mike continued living in the care center, where his carpentry skills were still being used. He was constantly working on little projects for his apartment and for other residents.
Mike was a lifelong member of the Brotherhood of St. Antonius Assistance Society of America and a Honorary Life Member of Knights of Columbus.
Mike enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing and traveling to visit family. One of their highlights was a cruise to Alaska in 1998 for their 50th wedding anniversary. His sense of humor leaves fond memories and smiles. Everyone enjoyed his playful bantering.
Mike will be dearly missed by his son, Gearald "Gary" (Peggy), Placentia, Calif.; his daughter, Darlene (Harold) Brenden, Salem; four grandchildren, Brian (Carrie) Wetsch, Manhattan Beach, Calif., Kimberly (Colin) Crawford, Rancho Murieta, Calif., Kristina Markel, Gresham, Ore., and Lynette Wetsch, Placentia; one great-grandchild, Tyler Wetsch, Manhattan Beach; and six brothers and three sisters, John, Bismarck, George (Margaret), Mandan, Val (Darlene), Bismarck, Jack (Leona) Urbandale, Iowa, Ray (Carol) Bismarck, Leona George, Benedict, Angie (Frank) Boehm, Mandan, Eddie (Rochelle), Grand Forks, and Loretta (Dave) Erhardt, Houston.
