William "Bill" was born April 30, 1921, in Bismarck, the son of Nicholas and Susie (Braun) Helbling. He was raised and educated in the St. Anthony area. Bill served in the Civilian Conservation Corps then enlisted in the U.S. Army. From 1942 to 1945 he proudly served in Italy, North Africa, France and Germany in a tank battalion. He married Josephine Friesz June 11, 1946, in Mandan. Bill then began what came to be a long career in the building and construction business as owner of Trinity Builders, retiring in 1989.
Bill's great sense of humor was greatly appreciated by his wife and children and also appreciated in the many activities in which he was involved. Bill and Josephine loved to square dance but would find the best place to polka and waltz almost every Saturday night. Bill and his wife were some of the original members in the Pinochle Club that he played in for 50 years, and he loved to bowl but he especially looked forward to the hunting season each year.
Bill's companionship and humor will be dearly missed by his wife, Josephine; two daughters and two sons-in-law, JoAnn (Larry) Brown, Minneapolis, and Lois (John) Kihne, Mandan; three sons and two daughters-in-law, David (Pam Siegel) and Dale, all of Mandan, and Daryl (Debbie), Fargo; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Loretta Brady, Bismarck; two sisters-in-law, Marion Helbling, Fargo, and Mary (Harold) Van Dyke, Wenatchee, Wash.; and one brother-in-law, Albert Webb, Waynesboro, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Duane, Kevin and Keith; one daughter, Mary Ann; one sister, Eleanor; and three brothers, Edward, Leo and Robert.
