Funeral Mass for Leona Boespflug, 83, of Dickinson, formerly of New England will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 8, 2009 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Father Keith Striefel and Father Klemmer concelebrating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, New England, ND. Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND with a rosary and vigil service at 4 p.m. Leona passed away June 1, 2009 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson, ND. Leona was born October 25, 1925 the daughter of Jacob M. and Agnes (Yambra) Hoerner at Glen Ullin, ND. She grew up and attended New Leipzig grade school and graduated from New Leipzig high school. She married Michael Boespflug on November 15, 1943 at New Leipzig, ND. To this union five sons and two daughters were born. After the death of Michael, Leona was left to raise the children on her own. At that time, she moved from New England to Raleigh, ND. She cooked at St. Gertrude’s for ten years in Raleigh and then moved to Minot as Father Klemmer’s housekeeper. She later moved to Bismarck, ND and continued working in housekeeping until her health caused her to retire in 2000. Leona enjoyed traveling as she has been to many far off countries including: Rome, Paris, Venice, Versailles, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Ireland, Mexico and Spain while traveling with Father Klemmer. One of her life’s highlights was to see Pope John Paul II during her travels. Leona enjoyed playing games with her family, handiwork, embroidery and crocheting. Her children and grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She is survived by five sons: Michael (Joan) Boespflug, Circle Pines, MN; Richard (Janet) Boespflug , Arvada, Co; Mark (Valerie) Boespflug, Minot, ND; Paul (Jeanne) Boespflug, Brooklyn Park, MN; Donald (Michelle) Boespflug, Lino Lakes, MN; two daughters, Sharon (Duane) Runcorn, Dickinson, ND and Karla (Paul) Erickson, Zimmerman, MN; one brother, Lawrence Hoerner, Grand Coulee, WA; one sister, Virginia Jarvis, Farmington Hills, MI; special nephew, Father Marvin Klemmer; 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren . Leona was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Michael; 3 brothers, Virgil, Raymond, Quinten and a sister Lucille.
