Full Obituary: Forward This To Family & Friends Sign the Guestbook Bookmark & Share Print Contact Us Family Login Set Anniversary Reminders Frederick Layman DIED: January 11, 2011 LOCATION: Fairmont, WV Frederick Layman Frederick Layman, 80, of Opekiska Ridge Road, Fairmont, went to be with his Lord, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 11, 2011. He was born in Marion County on November 21, 1930 a son of the late Frederick Otha Layman and Crissie Cora (Odell) Layman. Fred was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Sue (Nestor) Layman in 2002, his only son, David Rex Layman in 2002 and his only brother, William Robert Layman. He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School. He retired from Hamilton Electronics as a technician with over 20 years of service. Prior to that he had worked at the Westinghouse Electric plant in Fairmont. He and his late wife were caretaker and custodian for many years of the Mt. Harmony Church. Fred was a devoted member of the Mt Harmony Community Church. He enjoyed reading. Mr. Layman loved his church and his family. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Ann Pyle and her husband Ray, who he lived with for five years, of Fairmont; Susan Maxwell of Fairmont and Jennifer Atwell and her husband Robert of Alabama; his grandchildren and their spouses, Joshua and Bridget Pyle, Heidi Hockenberry, Matt Hockenberry, Jesse Love, Colby Dawn Layman, Cody Atwell, Spencer Atwell, Alina Anderson and Austin Franklin; and a great granddaughter, Kaylin Ray Pyle. Also surviving are his sisters, Etta Mae Sypolt and her husband Reverend Arnie L. of Lexington, Kentucky, Betty Borden and her husband Nelson of Kansas City, Missouri and Nancy Morris of California; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wilma Layman of Fairmont, Bill and Lois Nestor, Jim Nestor and Ann Hardesty, Dewy Butch Nestor, Peggy Slider, Sheila and Edward Loeffelbein all of Fairmont, Rex and Judy Nestor of Arizona as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, his son and brother, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Jack Nestor, John Nestor, Hugh Harsh, Robert Slider, Carol Nestor, Lovern Nestor and Wanda Harsh. Family and friends may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont on Thursday from 1-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday January 14, 2011 at 11:30 am with Pastor Ruth Hall officiating. Interment will be private at Peaceful Valley Cemetery at Mt. Harmony.
