Bertie L. Opas
Bertie L. Opas, 70, of Fairmont, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at home.
She was born July 2, 1930, in Marion County, daughter of the late Earl and Katherine O'Dell Layman.
She was graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1949. She was an active member of the H&H Chapel of Meadowdale United Methodist Church. She was a member of the RECON Club and the Willing Workers.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Nick Opas, whom she married June 24, 1950; a daughter and spouse, Terri and Jeff Murray, of Ashburn, Va.; a son and spouse, Steve and Beverly Opas, of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Brandi Opas and Levi Opas, of Fairmont, and Austin Murray and Garrett Murray, both of Ashburn, Va.; a nephew, Larry Layman; and three nieces, Kathie Clark, Diane Hogan and Kim Moran.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Bernard Layman, and a nephew, Gary Layman.
Friends may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 6-9 p.m. Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14 until the 1 p.m. service with the Rev. Tom Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover. Donations: American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2059, Fairmont, WV 26555.
