William Lee Vogler
WWII vet owned Vogler's Radio and Television repair
William Lee Vogler, 93, of Washington, died Sunday, September 6, 2009, in his home.
He was born August 12, 1916, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of Leo Bernard and Marie S. Bosold Vogler.
Mr. Vogler was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. 8th Army in Germany, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He earned the American Defense Service Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon during his military service.
He was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church and was active in its Holy Name Society. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, all of Washington.
Over a span of several decades, he was employed by WJPA Radio as an engineer; RCA Co. in its test layout and maintenance department; Hausfield Radio Supply as store manager; Wayne Lightner Radio Repair shop; and Brockway Glass Co. from 1960 until his retirement in 1970, in its automated inspection control department.
Mr. Vogler also owned and operated Bill Vogler's Radio and Television repair shop in Washington and taught at Vocational Technical School in Washington.
On November 14, 1941, in Fort Knox, Ky., he married Mary Ellen Yaw, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Marie Laurine of Washington; two sons, Bernard (Lois V.) Vogler of Hopewell Township and William Lee (Bettye) Vogler II of Galveston, Texas; two sisters, Rita (Robert) Adams of Farmington Hill, Mich., and Joan (George) Scheffer of St. Petersburg, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Barbara Rose Vogler, who died in infancy; a brother, Daniel Vogler; and a sister, Rose Marie Hufschmitt.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 1290 Jefferson Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 12, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, Washington. Interment will follow in Mts. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, W.Va. The U.S. Army and American Legion Post 175 of Washington will accord a full military rites at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice or EWTN Television.
