He was born in Wheeling, WV, July 14, 1925, son of the late Harry C. and Clara Witsberger Gossett. Mr. Gossett was a retired U.S. Postal Service Employee with 52 years of service. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, and a member of the Cave Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Paul Gossett; two brothers, Harry and Robert Gossett; and a sister, Betty Gossett. Surviving are his wife , Helen Riba Gossett; three sons, Mark Gossett and his wife, Kim of Dayton, OH, David Gossett of Kohala, Hawaii, and Matthew Gossett and his wife, Leigh Ann of Wheeling; three daughters, Debbie Conaway Mellott of Lansing, OH, Theresa Calvert and her husband, Mark of Morristown, OH, and Mary Defibaugh and her husband, Tom of Pickerington, OH; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the Kepner Funeral Home, (304-232-2732), National Road at Bethany Pike, Wheeling. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with the Reverend William K. Matheny, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling. Vigil services will be held Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
