Aberdeen: Brenda Kay Neuharth, 59, of Aberdeen passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011.
A celebration of Brenda's life will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Dakota Event Center in Aberdeen. A prayer service and remembrance will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Brenda Kay (Gab) Neuharth was born on Jan. 11, 1952, in Eureka, S.D., the daughter of Edwin and Erma (Stabler) Gab. She graduated from Eureka High School in 1970 and then attended the Aberdeen School of Commerce, obtaining her clerical degree.
In 1971, Brenda married Robert Neuharth and from this marriage she had two children, Heidi and Shane. Brenda worked as a secretary for several businesses in Eureka and Aberdeen. In 1990, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Management from Northern State University in Aberdeen. That same year, Brenda began working for the state of South Dakota in Pierre.
In 1992, her job with the state took her back to Aberdeen. Throughout her 21 years working for the state, she held various social work positions before ultimately working in long-term care. Brenda passed away at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at the age of 59 years, 8 months and 23 days.
Brenda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Aberdeen. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved animals (especially cats) and the Minnesota Vikings. She also liked to watch bull riding and hockey. She devoted herself to helping others not only in her work, but in everyday life. Brenda always put others before herself and will be remembered as a good mom, grandmother, sister and friend.
Brenda is survived by her daughter, Heidi Knapp, of Aberdeen, S.D.; son, Shane Neuharth, and his fianc?, Susan, of Okoboji, Iowa; one sister, Diane (Victor) Boschee; one brother, Jerry (Phyllis) Gab; six grandchildren, Ashley Knapp, Emily Knapp, Wil Neuharth, Jakey Neuharth, Ryder Neuharth and Chance Neuharth. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Robert Neuharth; and brother, Ken Gab.
