John Michael Thomas, 82, Bismarck, died Aug. 20, 2009, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. A prayer vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
John was born April 4, 1927, and grew up in Fort Yates. After serving in the Navy, John went to school in Wahpeton and worked for many years as a journeyman electrician. He married Eva Maichel on Aug. 3, 1953, in Hazen. Together, they were the proud parents of six sons. John was a member of Corpus Christi parish and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the Local 714. In addition to his work, he enjoyed bowling, playing cards and fishing with his family friends.
John will be dearly missed and remembered by his friends and family, his sons, Michael, Timothy, David, Gerald, Daniel and Robert; his daughters-in-law, Colleen, Joanne, Jolene, Debbie and Karen; his stepchildren, Laurie, Pam, Janine and Gary; his grandchildren, Jon, Daron, Stacey, Scott, Katy Rose, Michael, Angel, Joshua, Emily, Kira and Michael B.; and five great-grandchildren. John will also be missed and fondly remembered by his sisters and brothers, Mary Holzer, Bismarck, Gertie Venus, Minot, Clem Thomas, Bismarck, and Mark Thomas, Cottage Grove, Ore.; and his dear friend, Betta Archambault, Bismarck, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva; his parents, Philip and Emilia; his brother, Philip Jr.; his grandson, Evan; and later by his second wife, Patricia.
