Paul W. Burson
RED ROCK, N.Y. ? Paul Woodrow Burson, of Red Rock, N.Y., on July 25, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Fredericktown to Edward and Grace (Ruhl) Burson. He attended Fredericktown High School graduating in 1936. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America while in high school and received a jacket with the organization?s emblem which Paul recently donated to the Future Farmers of America Museum in Mount Vernon.
He worked in the carpentry trade after high school and volunteered for the Navy in World War II. In 1946, he married Marie Goerlitz in Mount Vernon, N.Y., who predeceased him in 1985, and returned to Ohio where he returned to the carpentry trade. In 1951, he moved to Red Rock. He worked as a carpenter until he retired in 1981. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of the Red Rock Rod and Gun Club and Canaan Rifle Club. He was a member of the New Lebanon Legion Post and the Ghent VFW. He was a founding member of the Red Rock Fire Company, and former member of the Red Rock Historical Society. He enjoyed being a member of the Canaan Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his son, George Burson of Cocolalla, Idaho; his daughter, Susan (Michael) Poole of East Chatham, N.Y.; his grandchildren, David Poole, Kelly Spurr and Lisa Poole; his three great-grandchildren, Aiden Spurr, Riley Spurr and Ruby Poole; brothers, Frank and Neil of Mount Vernon; his sisters, Wanza Smith of Mount Vernon, Lois Welch of Fredericktown and Marjorie Frey of Bellevue, Wash.
He was predeceased by his brother, Vaughn Burson.
