Birth: Dec. 17, 1917 Hosmer Edmunds County South Dakota, USA Death: Nov. 23, 2006 Milbank Grant County South Dakota, USA Sarah Kirschenmann was born on December 17, 1917 at Hosmer, SD to John and Christina (Kurle) Kirschenmann. This is the area where she grew up and attended school. On October 8, 1940 she married Eugene Mehlhaff at Hosmer, SD. They made their home on farms near Hosmer and Leola for seventeen years when they moved into Leola where she worked at the City Library. In 1969 they moved to Aberdeen where she worked for the School for the Blind and Visually Impaired until she retired in 1984. Eugene died on February 27, 2006 in Aberdeen. She continued to live in Aberdeen until the beginning of November when she moved to the Golden Living Center, Milbank. She was a member of the First Reformed Church. She loved sewing, reading, quilting and embroidering. Sarah died Thursday, November 23 at the Golden Living Center, Milbank. Grateful for having shared Sarah's life are her daughter, Charlotte (Carrold) Kraemer, Aberdeen, son, Charles (Margaret) Mehlhaff, Milbank, grandchildren, Clark (Jayne) Kraemer, Cathy (Robert) Dafoe, Meghan and Courtney Mehlhaff, great grandchildren, Allyson, Justin, Jacob, Thomas and Samuel Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eugene, three brothers, Ruben, Alvin and Elmer Kirschenmann, four sisters, Bertha Pietz, Ida Rueb-Schock, Maria Weishaar and Esther Knittel. Services for Sarah Mehlhaff, 88, Aberdeen will be 2 pm, Monday, November 27, 2006 at First Reformed Church with Pastor David Dawn officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Casket bearers will be Ralph Kusler, John Bender, Clark Kraemer, Leroy Mehlhaff, Dennis Heyne and Myron Kusler. Ushers will be Bruce Kappes and Ferdy Opp. Organist will be Becky Mehlhoff and special music by Doug Haak. Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.
