ALICE SCHRENK
The funeral service for Alice Schrenk, 94, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Battey officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Alice died Friday, December 2, 2011 at her home in Aberdeen
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. on Monday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Alice Fischer was born on November 27, 1917 to Jacob and Lydia (Schauer) Fischer at their home in McPherson County. She attended rural school. Alice went to Detroit Bible School in Michigan. After graduating, she returned to South Dakota.
On September 6, 1949 Alice married Milton E. Schrenk in Aberdeen. They were blessed with a daughter, Sheila and son, Sherwood. They moved to Ellendale, ND in 1955 and owned the Red Owl Grocery Store. In 1964 they moved to Aberdeen and owned the Dixie Cream Bake Shop. Alice also worked at Klein?s at both their downtown location and the present location. Over the years, Alice also volunteered at Avera St. Luke?s Hospital.
Alice was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church where she played the piano, taught Sunday School and kept church historical scrapbooks. She was a member of the Women?s Missions Fellowship and also helped with the Awana program. Her strong faith has been an anchor for the congregation over the years. Alice had a heart for missions and she was able to visit her sister, Esther, who was in Africa as a missionary. She liked to travel and visited many areas around the United States, Canada, Europe and Africa. Alice enjoyed embroidering and gardening. She was a great cook and was known for her baking. Time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, always brought Alice great joy.
Grateful for having shared Alice?s life are her daughter, Sheila (Keith) Rath, Aberdeen, son, Sherwood ?Woody? (Vickie) Schrenk, Aberdeen, granddaughter, Jan (Ken) Bjur and their children Jamie and Ashton Bjur, Aberdeen, grandson Steve (Nicole) Rath and their children Christian, Preston and Justin Rath, Britton, SD, grandson Chris (Ronna) Schrenk, Salt Lake City, UT and granddaughter, Lisa Schrenk, Alexandria, VA, and her sister, Helen (Jake) Ehman, Alpena, MI.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, Albert Fischer and one sister, Esther Hoffman.
