ADELINE MAIER
The funeral service for Adeline Maier, 85, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor D. Thomas Rawerts officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen. Adeline died Saturday, October 29 at Avera St. Luke?s Hospital.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m., Tuesday, November 1, with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Adeline Jung, daughter of Katherine (Heyne) and Jacob Jung, Jr. was born December 28, 1925 on a farm south of Hosmer, SD. She attended McPherson County farm school and graduated from Hosmer High School. She then attended Aberdeen Normal and earned her Teacher?s Certificate. Adeline taught at various country schools for five years.
On December 27, 1946, Adeline married Werner W. Maier at the Congregational Church in Hosmer. This is the church where Adeline was baptized and confirmed. They moved to Werner?s parent?s farm at Long Lake, SD. They farmed until 1975 when they moved into Long Lake where Adeline served as a substitute teacher and a teacher?s aide until the school closed. Werner and Adeline also did babysitting. In 1997, Adeline and Werner moved into Aberdeen.
Adeline was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary of the Long Lake American Legion Post 276. Adeline enjoyed gardening, canning and was known for her excellent baking, especially Kuchen and homemade bread. Adeline liked watching baseball and game shows on television. A favorite pastime of hers was reading novels and magazines. In her younger years, Adeline enjoyed dancing and horseback riding. She rode for many years into town for school. Adeline was a strong, hard worker and helped with much of the work on the farm. She was also an honest woman that was not afraid to take a stand for what was right. Adeline loved being around people. She would quickly make friends with those she met. Family was very important to Adeline and she loved them all very much.
Grateful for having shared Adeline?s life are her husband, Werner, Aberdeen, two sons, Virgil Maier, Houston, TX, and Owen (Lori) Maier, Wichita, KS, one daughter, Kathryn Maier, Sacramento, CA, two brothers, Mervin (Loretta) Jung, Aberdeen, and Morris (Ruth) Jung, Hager City, WI, two sisters, Emma Loeffler, Shakopee, MN, and Ardella Klein, Eureka, SD, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Preceeding her in death are her parents, three borthers, Reinhold, Elmer, and Aron, two sisters, Alma Aman and Frieda Morlock.
