YAKIMA - Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Regina Leingang passed away peacefully at the Summitview Health Care Center in Yakima, Washington. Regina was one of 15 children and was born April 2, 1923 in Glen Ullin, North Dakota to Fredric and Ida Hellmann.
Prior to being married, Regina was a medical lab technician which she greatly enjoyed. Regina married Joseph Leingang and moved to Yakima, Washington where they resided for many years. Regina was known as a kind and compassionate lady. Her love for her family was paramount in her life, supporting each generation as best as she could. All her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends were all special to her. She leaves two surviving sisters whom she loved deeply, Monica Kannedy who also resides in Yakima and Evelyn Brown of Bismarck, N.D.
Regina is survived by her sons, Leland and wife Ellen Leingang, Fred Leingang, daughter Marilyn and husband Mike Benoit, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe in February, 1987 and youngest son Dean "Dino" Leingang in July, 2005.
Regina was a devoted Catholic and was a member of the St. Paul's Parish. Regina enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading and other activities that brought joy to her and others. For several years while she lived at Mabel Swan she made table decorations for all of the holiday parties, which were admired by everyone. She was an excellent cook and no matter what she had on hand, the meals she prepared were always first class.
She was a long time member of the Moose Lodge, VFW Auxiliary, Eagles, YLI, RSVP and other organizations that gave her joy.
Regina's family would like to thank all the staff at Summitview Health Care Center for the special care and attention given to our mother during her stay and Dr. David Doornink who took care of her for many years with such kindness and compassion.

A vigil service will be held 6:15 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2009 at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at St. Paul's Cathedral, with a reception to follow at the Veteran of Foreign Wars, 118 S. 5th Ave., Yakima.
