Edwin was born Feb. 10, 1946, in Mandan, the son of Ralph and Anna (Bullinger) Leingang of St. Anthony. Raised on the family farm, he attended school in St. Anthony and graduated from Mandan High School. Edwin then attended Bismarck Junior College. He was drafted in to the army in January 1968. On May 25, 1968, Edwin and Sandra (Leingang) were married at St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, and Sandra joined him for the duration of his service. After being honorably discharged, they made their home in Mandan. At this time, Edwin began his career with Montana Dakota Utilities in the General Office. He retired from MDU in 2005 after 33 years of service.
Those who knew Ed will remember him as a devoted and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind and gentle man who possessed a quick wit and loved to tell a good story flavored with his lively sense of humor, making it seem real. At a young age, Ed developed a love for the outdoors, where gardening was a source of comfort and peace for him. An avid sports fan, he was loyal to the Green Bay Packers. He attended many sporting events and was an excellent softball and volleyball player. He co-founded and played on Hoffman's Bar softball team with Tony Beckler. Ed was a softball commissioner and umpire for many years and was instrumental in the development of the Mandan Softball Complex in the late 1970s. His appreciation for the outdoors extended into hunting and fishing. Ed also enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his grandchildren, and relaxing with his constant companion - his dog, Blondie.
Left with wonderful memories of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle are his wife, Sandra, Mandan; his daughter, Shelly (David S.) Tysver; his son, Benjamin (Sarah) Leingang; five grandchildren, Miranda, Sabryna, Cayla, and David E. Tysver and Aliyah Leingang; his brother, Ray (Edie) Leingang; two sisters, Marlene Watts and Marcy (Evan) Pfliiger; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved yellow lab, Blondie.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry; one brother-in-law, Cecil Watts; one nephew, David Watts; and his black lab, Brandy.
