Elizabeth Miller
Elizabeth Miller, 92, died May 2, 2007, at Medcenter One Care Center, Mandan. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips serving as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m., and a Christian Mothers rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. followed by a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at Christ the King.
Elizabeth was born Sept. 25, 1914, to George and Mary (Schmidt) Zander. She married Roy Fichter in 1935 in Crown Butte. Together, Elizabeth and Roy lived in Taylor, where they farmed. They later moved to Driscoll in 1944 until Roy's death in 1965. Elizabeth then moved to Denver, where she resided for 10 years. In 1974, she married Steve Miller and they returned to North Dakota.
Elizabeth's family was an important part of her life. She understood how important it was to balance her time with each family member and tried to make everyone feel valued. Elizabeth's hospitality was seen in the large meals she prepared when her family would visit.
Elizabeth was a serious card player and had a love for playing whist and pinochle. She also enjoyed dancing, needlework, visiting and traveling.
Elizabeth's positive attitude will be remembered by her husband, Steve Miller, Mandan; her daughter and son-in-law, Doris (Chris) Crennen, Denver; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald (Sandra) Fichter, Thomas Fichter and Elmer (Irmi) Fichter, all of Lakewood, Colo.; one stepdaughter and her husband, Joan (Albert) Kovash, Mandan; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Monica (Richard) Lever, Helen (Dale) Ivester, Clara Schaaf and Irene (Ralph) Kautzman; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Nick Zander and Marcus (Mary) Zander; two sisters-in-law, Bridget Zander and Agnes DeBurgn; and six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and four step-great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; two sisters, Veronica and Rose; and three brothers, Harry, Ralph and Joe.
