  Katie Schaeffer was about 3 years old when her father shot her mother dead. It's unclear who raised Katie and her siblings or whether her father, who said the shooting was an accident, was convicted of any crime. Katie married August Manz, Jan. 21, 1897. It appears August died in 1899 or early 1900, leaving his wife listed as "Catherine Manz" as a boarder in the 1900 Census. But Katie was apparently pregnant, giving birth to daughter Amelia around 1901. Katie Manz married William T Kelley on Aug. 24, 1904. She and William are listed in the 1910 Census for Boonville, Ind., with 9-year-old Amelia. Katie died Nov. 24, 1917 in Boonville and is buried at Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville. In 1920, her daughter is listed in the Census living as the step-daughter of William.
