Full Obituary: Memorial for George Brehme Born in New York, NY on Nov. 2, 1919 Died on Sep. 8, 2010 and resided in Sparta, NJ. Service: No Service George A. Brehme, 90, of Sparta, died September 8, 2010, at Harris Health Care Center at Bristol Glen in Newton. Born in New York, New York, Mr. Brehme was raised in East Rutherford and moved to Sparta in 1946. He was a World War II Army veteran. He worked for the Sparta Board of Education as an Industrial Arts teacher at Sparta High School, retiring in 1986. A cook, gardener and woodworker, Mr. Brehme enjoyed people and animals. The son of the late Henry and Elizabeth Fischer Brehme, Mr. Brehme was predeceased by the love of his life, Clara, in 1987; his son, Robert, in 2005; and his brother, Carl. He is survived by his son, Timothy Brehme, of Euless, Texas; his granddaughter, Ellie Brehme; his daughter-in-law, Carol Hoekje; many beloved nieces and nephews; and many friends. Arrangements are private and under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 Union Street, #301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691 or a charity of choice. A memorial service will be held at a later time.
