ANDUSKY - Aloysius F. "Al" Miller, 91, of Sandusky, passed away late Tuesday morning, November 23, 2010, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
Al was born December 17, 1918 in Waterloo, Indiana the son of John and Marie (Zircher) Miller. He graduated from Ashley High School (IN) in 1937. After serving for four and half years as a veteran in the United States Army during World War II, he moved to Sandusky and attended the Sandusky Business College. Al was employed by Hinde & Dauch Paper Company, later known as Westvaco Paper Corporation, as an Administrative Manager, and later he was associated with Displayco Midwest Inc., as Comptroller, retiring in 1983.
Al was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he served as an usher, a lector, member of St. Mary's Men's Choir and had been involved with other committees and projects. Additionally he was a charter member and treasurer of St. Mary's Band Booster Club. Other organizations included, the American Legion Post # 83, social member of the former I.A.B. Club and the Knights of Columbus Council # 546, where he was an Honorary Member and served as Past Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree Bishop Machebeuf General Assembly #813. Al recently received a 20 year service pin from the K of C Fourth Degree.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis C. (McDougall) Miler; three sons, Phillip (Janice) and Randall (Dianna) Miller of Sandusky, Kenneth (Laura) Miller of Castalia; daughter, Tricia (Richard) Kaman of Chagrin Falls; twelve grandchildren, Jason and Jeremy Miller, Ben and Kate Kaman, Anthony, Joel, Zachary, Nicholas and Mackenzie Miller, Andrea (Miller) Hayse, Alicia (Miller) Snyder and Jeff Miller; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Leilani Miller; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Rev. Edward A. Miller, Paul Miller, Lawrence Miller; two sisters, Margaret Goeller and Bernadette Karst.
Friends and relatives may call on Friday, November 26, 2010, from 4-8 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. The Fourth Degree will holding the presentation of The Chalice at 7:50 pm followed by the Rosary at 8 pm. Prayers will be recited Saturday afternoon, November 27, 2010, at 12:30 pm at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. David Nuss officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky, with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 83.
