Loren "Chub" Quick, 69, of Morrison, Oklahoma was born to Floyd James and Laura Marie (Heck) Quick. He was born October 22, 1940 in Ponca City, Oklahoma and went home to his heavenly father on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 after a long battle of cancer.
Loren attended school in Sumner and graduated from Sumner High School in 1960.
He married Alice Brown on August 31, 1963 at Nicoma Park Christian Church in Nicoma Park, Oklahoma. They celebrated 47 years together.
He was a member of Sumner Baptist Church. He drove the church van for several years picking up children for Sunday school and VBS.
Loren loved his family and the Lord. He was a wonderful husband and father. He was happiest when he was helping someone and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He loved gardening and shared his garden products with his family and community. He and his family loved to travel. He enjoyed playing his accordion at church and community functions.
Loren loved attending his sons and grandchildren's activities. He attended all his sons' ball games and wrestling matches. He was a member of the Morrison Takedown Club and helped every year with the Morrison wrestling tournament, even after his sons graduated. While his sons were in school he was president of the Morrison Football Booster Club for several years and helped with the advertising campaign. He also helped coach his sons little league baseball team.
He attended the local and county stock shows to watch his sons show their animals; and in recent years enjoyed watching his grandson.
In his later years he volunteered at the Morrison Senior Citizens Center. In 2008 he was chosen as Volunteer of the Year for N.O.D.A. and in 2009 he was chosen as Morrison's first senior citizen of the year.
Loren worked for the State Highway for several years. He later went to work for Charles Machines Works and retired in 1998 after 26 years of employment.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Sumner Baptist Church. Pastor Albert Quick, Pastor Roy Fleshman, and Pastor Russell Hughes will officiate.
Interment will be in Sumner Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home.
Loren is survived by his wife, Alice of the home; three sons, Paul and his wife, Sandi, of Morrison, Oklahoma, Phillip and his wife, Ruby, of Perry, Oklahoma, and Paige of Morrison, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Michael Maudlin of Morrison, Oklahoma, and Rueben Haynes of Medford, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Megan Quick of Morrison, Oklahoma; brother, Albert Quick and his wife, Jeanne, of Sumner, Oklahoma; sister, Karen Huffmire of Orlando, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Huie Brown and his wife, Linda, of Portales, New Mexico and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Laura Quick; brothers, Robert, Phillip, Kenneth, Dean, and Gary Quick and sister, Luella Quick.
