Joe Allan Neuman
WESTVILLE ? Joe Allan Neuman, 76, of Westville, went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Heartland Manor Care in Champaign.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3 at the VA Protestant Chapel, 1900 E. Main St., Danville, IL 61832. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the VA Protestant Chapel, with Chaplain Tom Mills officiating. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery with military rites by Korean War Vets. Arrangements by Pape Memorial Home.
Joe was born Nov. 7, 1931, in Broadlands, to Virgil and Arvilla Menges Neuman. He attended schools in Piatt County, Ind. He went to college at DACC and then went to the Milwaukee University for 2½ years to study for the ministry. He joined the U.S. Marines from 1952-1954 serving the Korean War, he received the Navy Occupation Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He worked as a farmer for many years, later went on to work for the Hyster Company until retirement. Joe was a minister at the Divine Light Church in Danville for 29 years. He loved to fish, collect berries for making jams and mushroom hunting.
Joe married Sharon Denton on Dec. 31, 1994. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Joe Allan Neuman Jr. of Westville; daughter, Marsha Kay Neuman of Mattoon; five grandchildren, Stacey (Matt) Shellto in Catlin and husband is serving in Iraq, Andrew (Christine) Neuman in Ft. Seal, Okla., Kelley (Daniel) Neuman, Stephanie (Phillip) Booth in Ft. Lewis, Wash. and Matthew Neuman in Chrisman; stepchildren, Edward Terry of Alabama, William Noble of Springfield, Joyce Noble and Mary Murray, both of Westville; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Neuman and his sister, Delores Sprague; two brothers-in-law, Vernie (Dee) Denton of Catlin and Tony Denton of Eldon, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Neuman of Bismarck and Marilyn Neuman of Perrysville, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Penny; three brothers, Jerry, Robert and George Neuman; and one sister, Virgene Miller. Guest register: www.papemortuary.com.
