Theodore Pietz, 95
January 11, 1911 - May 24, 2006
Funeral services for Theodore J. Pietz were held Saturday, May 27, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at Friedens Reformed United Church of Christ, Tripp, with Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston, in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Frank Nikkila, Merlin Pietz, Vilo Pietz, Delvin Schelske, Myron Liebert, and Mark Schelske.
Theodore J. Pietz was born January 11, 1911, to Jacob and Katherine (Mehlhaff) Pietz in Hutchinson County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Friedens Reformed United Church of Christ in Tripp. He attended country school north of Tripp through the eighth grade.
He was united in marriage to Leona V. Schelske on February 27, 1938, in Menno. Together they moved to Minnesota where he worked for a dairy farm before moving to Parkston. They moved to Howard and lived there for a short time before moving to Richmond, Calif., where he worked in ship yards during the war. After the war, they moved back to Tripp where they farmed for about 10 years before moving to Rapid City where he worked in the Howard Johnson Hotel and the School of Mines as a janitor. He moved back to Parkston where he retired.
He was a lifelong member of the Friedens Reformed Church, and served on the consistory.
He died Wednesday, May 24, at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston at the age of 95 years.
He is survived by his wife, Leona, Parkston; a daughter, Sharon Schnabel and husband, Derald, Tripp; a granddaughter, Denae Pearce and husband, Todd, Denver, Colo.; a great-grandson, Benjamin Pearce, Denver; a sister, Elsie Permann, Tripp; and a brother, Rueben Pietz, Tacoma, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Dale Wayne Pietz; four sisters, Dorothy Liebert, Hulda Vilhauer, Esther Sievers, and Olivia Liebert; three brothers, Carl Pietz, William Pietz, and Otto Pietz; two step-sisters, Martha Schock and Pauline Winckler and one grandchild, Kip Schnabel.
