TELL CITY ? Linus M. Werne, 88, of Tell City and formerly of St. Meinrad, passed away at 2:04 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City.
He was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Ferdinand to William and Mayme (Hedinger) Werne.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Gilbert Werne.
Linus married Mildred Lambeck Jan. 20, 1947, at St. Meinrad Catholic Church.
He was a retired coal miner and a U.S. Marine. He was a member of St. Meinrad Knights of Columbus Council 5599, St. Meinrad Legion Post 366 and Huntingburg Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking.
Linus is survived by his wife, Mildred Werne; two sons, Ronnie Werne and his wife, Janice, of Tell City and Donald Werne and his wife, Elaine, of Dale; two daughters, Betty Schnuck-Kerkhoff and her husband, John, of Evanston and Mrs. Jim (Nancy) Fowler of Nampa, Idaho; one brother, Jerome Werne of Huntingburg; three sisters, Florence Hagedorn of Ferdinand and Adeline Hartwick and Mary Rose Haas, both of Huntingburg; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 (today) at St. Meinrad Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. St. Meinrad Legion Post 366 will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand
