From the Herald, Wednesday, June 7, 1978: "Mrs. Leona C. Hochgesang, 72, of 1301 Mill St., Jasper, died at 2:28 a.m. today in Welborn Hospital in Evansville, where she had been a patient for four weeks. Mrs. Hochgesang was born Aug. 28, 1905, the daughter of George and Mary (Seng) Basch of Dubois. Otto (Oats) Hochgesang, to whom she was married on Feb. 14, 1928, preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1963. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Linus (Pat) Wagner; Mrs. Robert (LaVerne) Berg and Mrs. David (Carol) Lueken, all of Jasper; seven sisters, Mrs. Stella Gutzweiler, Mrs. Louis (Vernie) Theile, Mrs. Ruth Schneider and Mrs. Othmar (Annetta) Friedman, all of Jasper, Mrs. Max (Cornelia) Swails, Mrs. Eleanor Chapman and Mrs. Gloria Seger, all of Indianapolis; three brothers, Alfred, Victor and Gerald Basch, all of Indianapolis; and 10 grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery."
