Note: From the Herald, Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997: "Sylvester A. Bockelman, 85, 895 Wernsing Road, Jasper, died at 10:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 1997, at Northwood Good Samaritan Health Center, Jasper, where he had resided for a year. He was born at Jasper Sept. 22, 1911, to Anton and Veronica (Schneider) Bockelman. He married Alice Wehr June 12, 1934, in St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Anthony. Surviving are his wife, Alice; a son, Jerry Bockelman of Bedford; five daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Darlene) Plog of Naples, Fla., Mrs. Robert (Janice) Miller of Huntingburg, Mrs. Tim (Joyce) Nonte of Princeton and Linda Bockelman and Donna Bellner of Jasper; a brother, Claude Bockelman of Indianapolis; a sister, Eleanor Sermersheim of Jasper; two half-brothers, Tony Bockelman of Jasper and Harold Bockelman of Ferdinand; two half-sisters, Mrs. Cletus (Ardella) Luebbeheusen of Ferdinand and Mrs. Jerry (Joan) Oeding of Jasper; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Bockelman, and a half-sister, Dorothy Horney. Mr. Bockelman retired from Jasper Veneer Mills after 50 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a 50-year member of the Jasper Knights of Columbus. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. (Illeg.) in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jasper. Entombment will be in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum, Jasper."
