Christine was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Fallon, the daughter of Thomas and Eudenia (Schmidt) Barth. After graduating from Mandan High School, she was employed with Harvey Williams Company in Mandan. She was united in marriage to Matt Helbling Nov. 16, 1943. They lived with Matt's parents at their farm until December 1945, when they purchased their own farm west of Mandan. They farmed and ranched there until their retirement in 1987.
Christine patiently taught her daughters to sew, bake and cook. She enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labor. Many fond memories were made playing a game of checkers or cards with family. She looked forward to the holidays when she would make her special holiday fudge, snowballs, Easter bread, caramel rolls and many other sweet treats to share with others. She was known to whip up a fantastic meal when company dropped by. No one had more to do and got it done better.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose wonderful, gentle spirit will be missed by six daughters and two sons-in-law, Sharon Helbling, Bismarck, Norma (Dean) Bachmeier, Minot, Mary Lou Peterson, Las Vegas, Rosalie (Allan) Voigt, Mandan, and Lorraine Doll and Kristin Helbling, both of Bismarck; three sons and daughters-in-law, James (Sandy), Fred (Pam) and Wayne (Janet), all of Mandan; 11 grandchildren, James (Jennifer), Natalie and John Bachmeier, Scott (Kris), Christopher (Kim) and Michelle (fiancee, Eddie) Peterson, Jennifer, Russell (fiancee, Tonya) and Lindsey Voigt and Ryan (Jaimee) and Jodee Doll; three great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren, Wyatt and Annie Berger, Anne and Danielle Gilbertson, Michelle and Amanda Fetzer and Rachel Helbling, six step-great-grandchildren; one brother, George Barth, Bend, Ore.; five sisters, Anna Barth, Mandan, Rose Ternes, Bismarck, Kathryn Vicenti, Imperial Beach, Calif., and Cecelia Barth and Eva Darth, Los Angeles, Calif.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 15 brothers and sisters.
Memorials may be sent to Christ the King School.
