WOODSFIELD - Frederick L. Briggs, 84, of Maple Avenue died Wednesday (April 3, 2002) at Wheeling Hospital.
He was born Sept. 4, 1917, in Monroe County to Lee and Minnie Sulsberger Briggs. He was retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation, Monroe County Division.
He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Woodsfield; a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5303, Woodsfield; and a former member of the Woodsfield Fire Department, Monroe County Democratic Executive Committee, Monroe County Weights & Measures, and Monroe County Sportsman's Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. "Babe" Tracy Briggs; one daughter, Cheryl Piatt and her husband, Dennis, of Woodsfield; two grandchildren, Jason and Staci Piatt; seven nieces; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister and brother-in-law, Lena and Raymond Hudson.
Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home at 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield. Burial is in Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield with full military graveside service to be conducted by the Belmont Veterans Council. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
