HORNICK, Iowa -- Larry "Goober" Sulsberger, 57, of Hornick, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hornick United Methodist Church, with Pastor Catie Newman officiating. Scattering of the cremains will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.
Larry was born on Feb. 9, 195,1 in Sioux City, the son of John and Iona (Hobbs) Sulsberger. Larry stayed in the Hornick area after graduating in 1969. He then worked on the family farm. Later he joined the union to be a heavy equipment operator.
After he retired, he had time to enjoy riding his Harley, fishing and following NASCAR events. Larry will be remembered for his quick wit and his laughter.
Larry is survived by his special friend, Charlene Cain; his daughters, Janel Mallek of Arlington Heights, Ill., Laura Rankin of Branson, Mo., and Tammy Fitzpatrick of Lakeville, Minn.; a son, Jlee Gress of Hornick; eight grandchildren, two dogs, Magi and Ruby; and many friends. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Terri Sulsberger, Chioe Fitzpatrick and Conlee Gress; and his beloved Hotdog.
