Eugene was very warm and friendly. He loved telling stories. He would say "Hi Ya!" to the people that he passed in the street. His first language was French. He loved his cousin, Clarence. They would laugh and tell stories about their youth (Spying on girls in the swimming hole and smoking corn silk as they walked through the fields). Eugene adored Eleanor. He would tell her "You are the most beautiful woman in the world. You are the greatest lover that ever lived" several times a day. During their wedding night they discovered that Eugene's friends put bells on the bed and were spying through the window of the cabin. When they first met, Eugene would work on Eleanor's parent's farm to win her heart. She was interested in a principal. Eugene first saw Eleanor at church with her family. Their first date was a chaperoned visit to the nuns. Eugene was very religious. Eleanor's mother encouraged her to marry Eugene. They had a very loving marriage.
