Mrs. Dowden was a homemaker and a former caregiver. A celebration of life will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Brown County State Park Nature Center Amphitheatre with the Rev. Patrick Galligar officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests peanut butter, sugar and bread be taken to the celebration of life service for donation to Love Chapel in memory of Boots. Born in Brown County Nov. 26, 1929, Mrs. Dowden was the daughter of Ferrell and Cora Burkhart Hendershot. She is survived by her husband, William Dowden; children, Phyllis Followell of North Vernon, Bonnie (Kurt) Carlsen of Scipio, William (Nancy) Battin of Columbus, Kimberly (Keith) Yheulon of Columbus, James (Ella) Carter of Bloomington, John (Judy) Carter of Evansville, Larry (Gary) Carter of Maryland, Jerry (Tina) Carter of Tell City and Terry Brent Carter of Virginia; a brother, Albert Denzel (Gail) Hendershot of Brown County; a sister, Nadine (Ivan) West of South Carolina; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
