Monica (Guthmiller) Johnson, 61

Funeral services for Monica Olsen Johnson were held Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion.
Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Monica was born to Alvin and Elaine (Schulz) Guthmiller July 27, 1950, at St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. She attended Dewald Country School, Tripp High School and Nettleton College in Sioux Falls.
She married Dennis Olsen March 14, 1970, in Tyndall. She later married Marty Johnson June 20, 1998, and lived in Meckling. While working various jobs in the Vermillion area, she was an EMT with the Vermillion Ambulance Department, as well as working at Toby?s in Meckling. She also worked with her husband, Marty, doing the bookkeeping for the family business.
She died Monday, Aug. 15, at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. She attained the age of 61 years.
She is survived by her husband, Marty Johnson, Meckling; mother, Elaine (Schulz) Guthmiller, Tripp; daughter, Denise (Chad) Peterson, Vermillion; son, Chad (Amy) Olsen, Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Connor Ray and Jenna Elizabeth; sister, Marcia (Ron) Deyalsingh, Ardmore, Okla.; brother, Rodney (Ruby) Guthmiller, Lesterville; brother, Kevin (Michelle) Guthmiller, Yankton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin; brother, Louis; nephew, Kevin; and infant niece, Amanda.

MECKLING ? Monica Olsen Johnson, 61, of Meckling, SD, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Monica was born to Alvin and Elaine (Schulz) Guthmiller on July 27, 1950 at St. Benedicts Hospital in Parkston, SD. She attended Dewald Country School, Tripp High School, and then Nettleton College in Sioux Falls. She married Dennis Olsen on March 14, 1970 in Tyndall, SD. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Denise and Chad. She later married Marty Johnson on June 20, 1998 and lived in Meckling, SD. While working various jobs in the Vermillion area, she most enjoyed being an EMT with the Vermillion Ambulance Department as well as working at Toby?s in Meckling. Until recently she was working alongside her husband Marty doing the daily bookkeeping for the family business.
Monica will be remembered most for her love of her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her beloved pugs. Monica spent many a moment in the kitchen where she taught her children to cook and held many gatherings including memorable family holidays.
Thankful for having shared her life are her husband, Marty Johnson of Meckling, SD, mother Elaine (Schulz) Guthmiller of Tripp, SD, daughter Denise (Chad) Peterson of Vermillion, SD, son Chad (Amy) Olsen of Sioux Falls, SD; two grandchildren Connor Ray and Jenna Elizabeth, sister Marcia (Ron) Deyalsingh of Ardmore, OK, brother Rodney (Ruby) Guthmiller of Lesterville, SD, brother Kevin (Michelle) Guthmiller of Yankton, SD, and many nieces and nephews. Monica was preceded in death by her father Alvin, a brother Louis, nephew Kevin, and infant niece Amanda.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 20 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the church. hansenfuneralhome.com.
