Elaine (Schulz) Guthmiller, 87

Funeral services for Elaine E. Guthmiller were held Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Yankton, with the Rev. Dave Gunderson officiating.
Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery with Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Yankton, in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Wayne Peterson, Corey and Colin Deyalsingh, Jarod Guthmiller, Chad Olsen, Shaun, Derek and Ryan Guthmiller.
Elaine was born to Louis and Ann Margaret (Deurmier) Schulz April 19, 1924, on the family homestead at Delmont. She attended school at Choteau Creek #9 in Charles Mix County through the eighth grade and graduated from Wagner High School.
She married Alvin Guthmiller Dec. 29, 1943.
They raised their children on the family homestead and farmed the land until 1979, when they moved into Tripp. She was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Avon where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a teacher?s aide and involved in the Community Action Program (Head Start) in Wagner. They moved to Yankton in 1998. After moving to Yankton, she became a member of St. John?s Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the Bible study groups and attended the Over 50 Fellowship Group.
She died Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Good Samaritan Society in Tripp. She attained the age of 87 years.
She is survived by her children, Marcia (Ron) Deyalsingh, Ardmore, Okla., Rodney (Ruby) Guthmiller, Lesterville, Kevin (Michelle) Guthmiller, Yankton; son-in-law, Marty Johnson, Meckling; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; sisters, Charmaine Gremmert, Mae Ferber, Judy Walz, Margaret Heisinger, Carol Powers; son, Lois; daughter, Monica; granddaughter, Amanda Guthmiller; and grandson, Kevin Smidt.
