Lawrence J. Herman
Died September 18, 2005
SUTTONS BAY-- Lawrence Joseph Herman, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. Lawrence was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Keswick, the son of Joseph and Angeline (Flees) Herman. On Oct. 2, 1948, at St. Michael?s Catholic Church, he married his loving wife of 56 years, Ruby Irene Clark, who survives.
Larry will be remembered as a man with a work ethic who believed and practiced in turning the other cheek. For decades he was a licensed electrician. He wired and worked on most of the fruit processing plants in the northern Michigan area. Larry worked at F and M Packing, Peninsula Fruit Exchange, Morrison?s Packing, Leelanau Fruit and Northern Michigan Fruit Exchange.
He was a generous man who would help anyone who needed a hand. His generosity showed as he did the electrical work on all seven of his childrens homes.
Larry was a gifted mechanic and builder who built his own home, and through the years there wasn?t anthing that he couldn?t fix. If there was a job to be done, Larry would stay not only until the job was done, but until the job was done right.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; two daughters, Louann (Richard) Dennis and Gloria (Charles) Kitterman; five sons, Lawrence Jr. (Denise), Ricky (Elaine), Timothy, Mark, and Kenneth (Kelly) Herman; five sisters, Martha Fate, Anna Schaub, Katherine Hughes, Emma Gilson and Irene Clark; four brothers, Edmund, Andrew, George and William Herman; 16 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his brother John; and a sister, Helen Curry.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, from 2 to 9 p.m., with a rosary to be prayed at 7:30 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary?s Parish of Lake Leelanau. Burial will follow in St. Michael?s Catholic Cemetery in Suttons Bay. The Rev. Michael Janowski will serve as celebrant.
